Dr. Brian Doucet, Canada Research Chair in Urban Change and Social Inclusion, School of Planning, University of Waterloo

Brian Doucet’s research examines the relationships between gentrification, neighbourhood change and mobility.

Originally from Toronto, he lived in the Netherlands between 2004 and 2017, where he obtained his MSc and PhD in geography from Utrecht University.

Current research includes examining displacement along Waterloo region’s light rail transit line, gentrification and neighbourhood change in Hamilton and how people experience cycling in different countries.

Doucet is co-author of the book Streetcars and the Shifting Geographies of Toronto: A Visual Analysis of Change (2022, University of Toronto Press) and co-editor of the four-volume series Global Reflections on COVID-19 and Urban Inequalities (2021, Bristol University Press).

Since 2017, he has been a Canada Research Chair and associate professor in the University of Waterloo’s school of planning.
