The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) has been an important part of the co-op legal landscape since 2005, setting standards for serving and communicating with people living with disabilities, among other things. Ontario was supposed to be fully accessible by January 1, 2025. We didn't quite make that goal! Join Celia Chandler as she explains what AODA requires of housing providers, and the training your directors and other volunteers need.

As a housing lawyer for 17 years, Celia found her niche working on member and tenant issues, including evictions and human rights where she developed a particular interest in issues related to mental health and housing. Since 2023, she's contributed her experience to the housing sector by designing and delivering in person and online workshops as well as being the part time Deputy Executive Director at the Co-operative Housing Federation of Toronto. Free from being a lawyer, she sees the more positive side of non-market housing, and can focus on broader issues, including good governance and management practice.
